They are rather simple; but a joy to make and watch, as the clay bodies popped.

In the summer of 2024, I spent three months in the Celadon hub of Longquan in China, at Wang Ou Taoxichuan Ceramic Residency @longquanwangou_artcenter

This is a film made by their team. All their hard work, collective learnings and many a friends, during this impressionable period.

Thanks to everyone and my master ceramist residents @wanliyawly and @dududu_u_j_ceramics and @michael.ningxl for sharing their wealth of Chinese writing.

about this work:
Rashi sees ash in the Indian tradition as the ashes from burning of bodies, symbolising the impermanence and evolutionary cycles. Ash or Bhasma is sacred. Bha stands for 'destroy' and Sma, 'remember', signifying Unity with the Supreme Self. In tantra, the skull is a symbol of Life and death. In deep states of silence, the Kundalini, the serpentine energy channel in the body, rises, from the base of the spine to the crown, illuminating the brain. A moment of witnessing the Self: the skull is a symbolic offering, a surrender: dissolving of the body and mind into ash, merging with the cosmos.
